Letter, 1940, September 20, Los Angeles [to] Virgil [Markham, Staten Island, New York] / Bailey Millard. 1940.

Again reports that Virgil's aunt seemed rational when he spoke to her by phone the previous week. He invites Virgil and Kit to visit. He hasn't heard from Ann Watkins, the literary agent, but is not worrying. "I am now only 81, and there's plenty of time for the publication of the book." [n.b. Millard would die the following year.] Written on Los Angeles Times letterhead.

Bailey Millard (1859-1941) was born in Markesan, Wisconsin. Much of his education was obtained as a printer's devil and tramp printer. He worked his way west through a succession of newspaper and printing shops. In the 1890s he was city editor or literary editor of the San Francisco Call and the Examiner, and in 1918-1919 was managing editor of the San Francisco Evening Bulletin .
